CLAMPS

In lesson today we looked at CLAMPS Which is part of mise en scene. CLAMPS  stands for: Costume ~ which is what the actors are wearing. Lighting~ how the scene is light up, which could be dark or light.  Actors which is the charactors are they old, young etc. Movement~ is simply how they are moving is it a fast paced slow etc. Props~ this are objects used within a scene to emphasis the charector.Settings~ this is where the scene is set. It could be an old house or a pub.

We then looked at a clip called " The chase" episode one.

The Chase (DVD)While watching this we had to write some of the CLAMPS within the episode. Some I wrote down where C~The characters wore wedding clothing showing they were attending a wedding. L~ the lighting was daylight as this was featured in the day. A~ the actors  one of the key ones was a vetenary doctor, who was an old man. M~the characters movement was very fast as they were trying to get dressed for the wedding very quickly. P~ many props were used one of the key ones was keys,  which enter thrown down the drain as a sign of an ending reletionship. Lastily S~ the setting. This was a church as this was a wedding.

This all showed how mise en scene works to produce. Great episode in all.

Camera shots.

In the class today, We looked at camera shots. We talked about the follwing camera shots; Extreme close up , big close up, close up, medium close up, medium shot, medium long shot, longshot, establishing shot, high angle shot, low angle shot, birds eye view, Dutch angle, eye level shot, and reverse angle. This are all the different camera shots used in movies. camera shots are used for diffent effact within the movies some such as extrm closeup could be used to show charector emotion.

Camera shots

X MEN FIRST CLASS: FIRE

This week in lesson we looked at camera shots. As a class we first looked at King Arthur. The opening scene was a long shot showing us the setting of the scene, which was a mountainous mount and frozen lake. It also then shows a small group of people standing against a large group which leads us to root for the larger group.  The scene then continues with other varieties of shots. Such as close up.

Then we paired up and choose a clip “X-men first class- fire” it opens with medium shot showing us one character, at what looks like plane crash. This straight away grabs our attention.  Also there is reverse shot with the scene when all the characters are looking at a dead men hanging in thin air. This is effective  as there is mixture of two shots  a medium long shot and a reverse shot, as they work perfectly together They are many other diffrent shots used with the scene, such as long shot etc.A Dutch scener is used near the end when the camerta moves in for a close up on one of the main charectors. This shot mixed with the dutch angle is very effacive as we see that the charector does not show any emotion within his eyes, when missles are lauched at him.

camera shots - grown ups arrow scene

For the task of looking at camera shots. I have decided to look at a short clip. From the movie "Grown ups" in the scene one of the charectors ( Adam sandier) shoots an arrow into the sky. This arrow comes and lands on one of th charectors foot. There are many camera shots used during this scene which make it a very good scene. Such as the scene, starts with a medium shots that  pans. As it shows all the characters. Who are in circle. The best shot we see is birds eye view. Of them as th arrow is shot up into the sky.  There are many close up used as the charectors run away, this is because they don't know who the arrow is gonna land on. The scene ends with a charector  screaming in pain. Due to the arrow having landed on his foot.. The camera shots used. Give the audeice a feel of the fear this characters face. When the shoot this arrow into into the air.

The rule of thirds

This phot take to demostrate the rule of thirds.
In my first lesson today doing media studies I learnt about the " rule of thirds" and how it's used in movies today. Firstly I will explain the rule of thirds: The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy wand interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would. I found this very interesting as I started noticing in the movies I have been watching since I learnt about it.
This photograph of a sunset taken demonstrates the principles of the rule of thirds

Short clips: Get carter car park scene

In the lesson today we watched a  text (short clip) from the movie Get carter. We watched the car park scene. I will  now talk about how the charectors where represented in this scene. At the start of the scene we see three man. We clearly see who is the main character as he is much closer to the camera compared to the other two work men  directed a lot further away from the camera, compared to the man in the silver suit which was stood a lot closer to the camera. This gives the impression that he is the boss and the main characater than the two men standing further away This links with the rule of thirds. Which I explained in my earlier post. Furthermore we can tell why he is the main character, as  shown the man was with two other work men who were both dressed in a black suit but he was wearing a silver suit. This tells us that by what the characters are wearing tells us a lot about their role in the film.  Each character is represented very well.
